I'm always amazed at how many talented people there are in the world- and sometimes, I swear if I weren't on Facebook I'd miss a lot of it!
Here are a couple of girls, working together, to make cool jewelry and if it weren't for Facebook, I'd never have seen their stuff! You can check them out over at Harlan's Emporium of the Curious and the Bizarre.
I recently "hung out" with Jenna, one of the creators:
Who is "Harlan's Emporium?"
We are college roommates and long-time best friends Jenna (a.k.a. Olympia) and Cori (a.k.a. Jane). I am an adjunct college instructor and online tutor. Cori is a Barnes & Noble bookseller and barista and ChaCha guide.
What do you make?
We create jewelry; we prefer doing wire-wrapping and earring making, and we also work with hemp. We also like to recycle materials - we work with Christmas light-bulbs, old keys, found fabric and lace, and just about anything that we can twist wire around.
How did you come up with the name for your shop?
Harlan is Cori's dad's name, and it was from his stash of "treasures" (or junk) that we first got our ideas. The rest of the title just had a Victorian theme to it. I am a victorianophile, Cori loves steampunk, and so the whole theme fit together.
Where do you get your ideas?
Talking, mostly. We share everything. Cori is also has a bachelor's in art, and so she has a good eye for composition and color. I'm a little more impulsive; I put things together and hope they will work. We have different styles, but we merge and mesh nicely.
Where can you be found?
At the moment, we can be contacted through our Facebook page or by email (harlansemporium@gmail.com). We're on evenbadgers.com, but we are waiting for it to come back online.
