The Gunslinger

Spent a good 15-20 minutes trying to convince Luke that he should read The Dark Tower series today. I did not succeed in that quest but along the way I met my old friend nostalgia, got super excited about the story again, and so here I sit, cracking open Book 1 for my 4th trip into that world. I can't wait. 

Morning Pages

Day 40 (I think?) of morning pages.. Journaling 3 pages every morning, every day, for the duration of The Artist's Way workshop. Today is the day we get together, though, and it is always, always awesome.

The Artist's Way

I am following The Artist's Way as a weekly group meeting at my favorite art studio. Some weeks are harder than others.. 

This is Week 5 - this week's chapter of The Artist's Way is promising to be difficult for me. Or perfect for me. One or the other. Or both. 

When Life Gets You Down...

I SWEAR, all you have to do is read Christopher Moore.  
This book has made me giggle with maniacal glee more than once already and I'm less than halfway through it. Yay!

What I'm Reading Now

I have been a historical fiction fan for years and am always on the lookout and the hunt for good ones.


Just recently I read the Josephine B. trilogy by Sandra Gulland and just loved them. I cried at the end of the third. What a sad but strong love Josephine and Napoleon had!


Right now I am reading Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross. It tells the story of a girl named Joan who grew up in the 800s between France (Frankland) and Rome. She pretended to be a boy and then a man because women were not allowed to be scholars, or indeed anything other than wives and childbearers. The book tells how she grew from child to woman (man) and became Pope.


No one agrees on whether or not Pope Joan is fictional or not but the book is fascinating. Here is the wiki page on her if anyone cares to read up on it:

New Things I'm Working On

Bookmarks!

I LOVE to read. And I hate to dog ear pages. I never do it, in fact, because I hate it so much. But I always seem to lose my paper bookmarks.

So out of desperation comes design. Or something like that.

What I'm Reading

I've recently discovered a new author. Well, the author is not new but he is new to me.
Peter Abrahams. In the two weeks or so since I've discovered him, I've found and read quite a few of his books. He's my new favorite thriller writer and that should mean something when I say it because man, I'm a super picky reader. (and movie watcher but that's another blog for another day)

Here I've linked to Oblivion, which I probably enjoyed the most. Okay, well tied for first place, then. The main character is a super smart PI who, because of brain trauma, suffers from some amnesia. We, as the readers, can see what is happening and feel an awful sense of foreboding as we watch and wait for the protagonist to figure out what's going on. Very tense and thrilling. I loved it.


Also tied for first place is Lights Out. The protagonist here is just getting out of prison after 15 years served for a crime he didn't commit. He went in innocent and came out dangerous. But still, he's a very, very likeable character who has to follow a trail back to the beginning to puzzle out his story. The story is immensely suspenseful and the conclusion is shocking but cool. The author moves back and forth seamlessly between past and present as Eddie moves closer and closer to the conclusion.


Peter Abrahams has been named our best thriller writer by Stephen King, which has got to be a hell of a better recommendation than any little blog I could write!
